Yorkshire OUGS - Goldpanning in Wanlockhead, June 2007 - and again in August 2007 (just me and Bob)

Sun shining in Moffat, but black sky over the hills There's that black sky again!
Black skies over Moffat - um - that's where we're heading!? Moffat ram - quick trip round the shops to buy Moffat toffee and tablet
Bob watching, but didn't take part! Right, here we come! Follow that car!

I remembered the rock feature in the Mennock Water from last visit Anyone found anything yet?
First stop - how will we do here? Studying pans intently
Nothing in that one Misty mountains
If Chris is tipping hers out, she has obviously found nothing Mist has come down - back to the museum for lunch
There were about ten of these three-wheeler cars Sue is looking for her first piece of gold

View from A1 in North Yorkshire Driving through Durham and Northumbria
Ah! Sunshine! This must be North Yorkshire in August! Switchback A68 - a bit cloudy, but still dry
Panning in the Wanlockwater - I got absolutely drenched! Apparently built in 1851 by the Duke although probably not personally
Pouring with rain - this must be Wanlockhead in August! Bob and I stayed at the Buccleuch and Queensberry Hotel, Thornhill
Of course, Bob didn't get wet - he was sat in the car, reading - It was about 20 minutes from the hotel to the Mennockwater
A bit drier after a hot bath and a lovely meal Drumlins on the A76
Bob on the bridge, looking at the water level The rock in the stream is a good pointer to the water level
It must be a blip - not raining at this moment in time Photo in June (higher up the page) shows the same stream - now a raging torrent!
Wanlockhead is over there somewhere Hiding in the clouds
Driving home - looking towards the hills - still lots of cloud cover View towards the Lake District over the Solway Firth
Nick was happy, I bought him some Skull Splitter beer Looking towards the Kilburn White Horse from A1
Last stop at Gretna's famous shop for some Scottish tourist goodies Back to North Yorkshire and the sunshine - White Horse is over there somewhere
