One way to get to Cawood is to get the 42 bus from York or
Selby - bus stop in York in Piccadilly, and in Selby from bus station or
outside W H Smith's in Gowthorpe. Once you get to Cawood, you can
visit one of the three remaining pubs in the village (pictures at foot of
page) - or all of them, if preferred! Also on this page - Bishop's
Wood; Water Row; Cawood Castle Garth; the local pubs, and a link to
another page of pictures of the village

| Bishop's Wood
|
Bishop's Wood was used by the Archbishops for hunting, and
still has deer. During the First World War, all the trees were cut down to
aid the "war effort"; the wood which exists today is, therefore,
only 80 years old

| Water Row, Cawood - used sometimes to be literally that,
before the flood wall was built! |

| Cawood Garth:

| In summer the hedgerows are foaming with hawthorn blossom -
lane across the top of the garth; ice, snow and mist in the winter - above

| Wonderful to have this open space in the heart of the
village - thanks to the Parish council |

| Local pubs: when we moved here, there were six - now there
are three - no, I didn't close them! Still open are - the Ferry Inn
in King Street (right); Castle Inn, Wistowgate (below left); and the Jolly
Sailor in Market Place (below right)
- and more pictures around Cawood
