Thanks to Ann, who organised another cracking trip to Moffat and Wanlockhead

Driving along the valley towards Dob's Linn Winding roads make 10 miles seem like 30!
First we went to Dob's Linn to see the base of Silurian - this is the view on the way Looking down the valley towards Dob's Linn

Beware sheep on the road - This is the start of the gorge - sheep for scale!
Other road users Dob's Linn gorge
The stream is the Moffat Water Barrel of pen for scale - top left
Moffat (civilisation!) is somewhere back there Graptolites in the black shales
Red sandstone and greywacke Looking east, Dob's Linn is somewhere back there
Back to Moffat - local building stones View across the valley on our way to Leadhills
We forced ourselves to eat some scones before we left to stand in the stream! Mennock Pass
Wanlockhead - museum on the right "Wild" campers beside the Mennock Water
Bob doesn't share our enthusiasm for standing in cold water Viv studies her pan intently
Here's a good place!  (we hope) Found anything yet?
Sam is concentrating on her technique Don explores the stream bed for likely places
Still searching - Swoosh!  Sucking up gravel
All that glitters is not usually gold - but galena or pyrite - At least the sun shone, it was a glorious day
What's in the pan?  Mostly haematite! Found anything yet, Ann?
Gold panning gives you an appetite - reading, too, apparently, Bob? Bob having a rest
Dinner at the Black Bull Sky looking a bit dark!
Making sure I don't lose my footing and end up rather wetter than intended! The pool was very deep in the middle, even with waders
Gold panner's "eyeview" Looking downstream - admiring the geology
Picture only slightly enlarged! Train passing the spoil heaps from the last lead mine
Can you see that - arrow pointing - that's a speck of gold! Little train which runs from Leadhills
