September 2007, Bob and I travelled to Gibraltar to stay with Cat and Gav - difficult to boil 1,000 photos down to this selection!

Sailing at 2100 hours Me and Bob, as we see ourselves in the mirror
Boarding the Pride of Bilbao Here we are, amusing ourselves with the mirrored ceiling on board!
When the call came, they would up their tripods and off to the other side - We saw whales and lots of dolphins
Lots of passengers on board just for the wildlife - whale spotting on the helicopter deck This is a fin whale having a blow - pity I didn't manage to get my camera out in time as a Cuvier beaked whale swam past the Costa Coffee shop window!
Always fascinating to watch the sea 37 degrees outside, but in the hotel there was air conditioning!
This is where we have been - watching the wake disappear over the horizon Overnight in Jaen province, to recover from the heat - this was opposite the hotel :-)
The toll motorways were always very empty The sea in the Bay of Gibraltar was turquoise blue
At last - Gibraltar looms up as we head along the motorway Parked up in La Linea, waiting for Gav to collect us
Passports at the ready - Governor's residence, with King's Chapel stained glass window behind Bob's head
Walking over the border - this got to be quite a routine! Don't look so worried, Bob, it's only the bunting up for Gib Day on Monday!
When I was in second year, my classroom was behind that palm tree! That's my sun hat giving Bob a mean look
Two for the price of one - my old primary school, St Christopher's (now St Mary's) at the back; and former Loreto Convent on the right Relaxing in the Lord Nelson - did I mention that we drank it dry of J2O?
What's that over there, Cat? Most of this has been added since we lived here in the 1960s
Cat joined us after work - here are Gav and Cat, we are at the Marina Sunset at the Marina
Me and Cat - still in La Linea Looking north
Another day, another border crossing Number 3 bus to Europa Point
Buena Vista quarters Pile of earth near Catalan Bay, ready for more reclamation
And this is where we used to live - top right was our kitchen window, with a view across to Africa (which was never visible during this visit, it was so hazy) A view we never got when we lived in Gib - this is from La Linea beach, which we never visited at that time
Still publicly accessible, apparently - and the concrete cladding of the water catchments has gone The original road had been buried under a landslide in 1943, and still hadn't been cleared when we lived here
"Both Worlds" - this was Sandy Bay, where we used to go regularly on Sundays Entrance to William's Way - this was the only way to get to this side of the Rock when we lived here
We also went to look at the animals in the "wildlife park" Cat's on top of the world! Well, 420 metres up
Alameda Gardens with Cat and Gav Gav and Bob chickened out of the cable car and watched rugby
This one has its baby clinging on Well, there wasn't any J2O left in Gib -
I had to include a Barbary ape Gone out for tapas in La Linea
Building works going on all over the place There used to be some rickety steps we climbed down from Buena Vista to get to Camp Bay
Gib Day, and Bob and I went looking for Daddy's old workshop - is this it? Camp Bay - this has been developed since we left
Great atmosphere Plane taking off with Gib in the background
Balloons in Casemates Square -red and white - Gibraltar colours All that crossing the runway, sooner or later I had to manage to do this!
This was a special drink brought out to us in the Chinese restaurant - the waiter was laughing - Stocking up on duty frees and other stuff
What's that, Gav, you prefer your drink with two dead lizards in it? Don't worry, Bob, Cat and I are almost all shopped up -
There was an amazing thunder and lightning storm before we left Bob on photographic duty while I drive
Driving back to Bilbao - the rain had stopped by now, almost at Granada Windmills in La Mancha - very appropriate!
Don't worry, it's only Sprite I'm drinking - guess what - they had no J2O - We had really good weather both ways - and the special patches seemed to work
This was the bargain dress I snapped up in Gib - flaunting it in Langan's Brasserie Back on the helicopter deck of the Pride of Bilbao - coming into the English Channel - not long to go now
