The River Ouse has a tendency to flood - in November 2000, we had the worst floods in 400 years.  (At bottom of page: 2004 photos)

The mile straight was under water for three weeks - nearest bridges were Tadcaster and Howden - even Selby bridge was closed.

When the river goes over the bank, this road is completely covered with water - a mile wide stretch of water
