"Seven Sisters" - on top of Upper Jurassic rocks Seen from the beach - further down the page is the view from the top
My first visit to Filey, May 2003 - this is Carr Naze Glacial till (boulder clay) on Coralline Oolite Formation
Cave worn away in the rocks Stunning rock exposures along the base of Carr Naze
Looks like rubble in the foreground, but is actually the rock platform Bedding layers - Upper Leaf of Hambleton Oolite on top of Birdsall Calcareous Grit
Enjoying the geology as we walked towards the Brigg Calcareous grit on the Brigg
We wondered if that block had fallen out from the layer top right The rocks we walked on were full of fossils
This is where we sat and ate our lunch - Sunglasses for scale
Looking back at Carr Naze from the Brigg - lines of bedding very clear, also the dip! Thalassinoides burrow systems in Lower Calcareous Grit Formation
We had to make a detour as the cliff path was closed from here "Sheer cliffs"
Walking from Lebberston - "Danger - sheer cliffs" - Ravenscar group rocks exposed Evidence of recent falls - we kept away from the edge!
Rejoined the path - looking north west along the coast Thank goodness for zoom!
North Cliff - far distance is Scarborough "Apparent" dip to south west - close up of cliff
A bit hazy, taking photos into the sun "Seven sisters" - view from the top! Dark lines on beach are jet fragments
Looking towards Filey Brigg - north side Looking down at Filey beach from Carr Naze
- apparently, Constantine, according to local legend - Filey Brigg - low tide again
The "Emperor's Pool" - North side of Carr Naze

(Another trip to the Brigg, below)

Filey Brigg from top of Carr Naze - people for scale!  Beds from left- Lower Calcareous Grit, Hambleton Oolite and Passage Member, Birdsall Calcareous Grit.
End of Carr Naze - Filey in the distance Beds of Birdsall Calcareous Grit member (Upper Jurassic)
Trip to Filey, 23 April 04 - St George's Day Erosion of wave cut platform (foreground)
My walking stick for scale - approx 5ft long Preferential erosion of sandy layer?
More close ups of bedding Looking along the line of bedding
We went for an explore along the Brigg with Ginny and Willi (Left: looking back at Carr Naze from almost the end of the Brigg!  1 August 2004 - Yorkshire Day)

(More pictures of Filey - SEOUGs page)

Below: trip to Hunmanby (Filey Bay)

Heavy clouds - just started to rain as we hit the beach! Twenty pence piece for scale -
Looking from Hunmanby towards Bempton Cliffs and Flamborough - tide on way out Not a lot of rocks to see here; but plenty of pebbles on the beach at Hunmanby
The Kimmeridge Clay is hidden by the boulder clay along the beach Erratic brought in by the glaciers
Boulder clay crumbles onto the beach Lump of fossil coral - 20p for scale
This time I am using one Bob for scale (old pre-decimal money joke!) Back to the twenty pee for scale -
The jet marks out the patterns the waves create in the sand Another interesting find on the beach; pictures further down the beach (Speeton/Reighton)
